HAPPY TAX SZN BB | How Much Did I Spend Last Week? March 20-26, 2023
YOU WILL NEVER BELIEVE THIS.
So, it turns out we underpaid our taxes last year. By $6,000. So we’ve had a serious look at our finances and concluded that we can’t really afford to do much of anything for the next few months.
Does that mean I spent nothing this week? Prepare to be shocked…
Monday
I’m meeting Bea today around lunchtime, and Atlas sleeps until 9.45am which is amazing – and perfect – because it means he can just go down for his nap when we get back.
I have some toast for breakfast, and share with him but mostly he just wants to nurse. He’s still really clingy since getting his vaccinations and seems to only want to breastfeed, rather than eating, lately, and while I’m still offering him food at every meal, I’m also trying to relax about it, not panic that he’s not eating a lot and let him breastfeed if he makes it clear that’s what he wants (and he does, by lifting up my top at every possible opportunity).
I pay parking ($1) and meet Beatrice at Proximo for lunch. We each order the chicken tortilla soup and I order the kids’ breakfast for Atlas – toast, sausage and scrambled egg. He eats the toast and everything else goes on the floor. Bea pays.
After lunch, I head home and put Atlas down to sleep, then get some work done for a few hours. I don’t have any writing to do today for any freelance clients, but I do have my money diary to do and need to get a podcast episode edited, so I get the MD done and start into the editing but then Atlas wakes up so I need to put it aside until Brandin gets home with the boys.
Since Brandin went back to work, I’ve been working a lot of midweek evenings which I think we both hate – it means it’s all on him to handle the boys’ dinners, but also means I don’t really see him that much after work, so I think I’ll try to reshuffle this a bit so I work at weekends instead. I might hate that too, but right now it feels like the lesser of two evils and I feel mega stressed when I have to work loads around Atlas’ naps during the week, rather than taking some time to just… not be touched / shouted at for an hour or two.
Brandin makes chicken with mashed potatoes and broccoli for dinner. One boy eats the chicken. The other boy eats the potatoes. Atlas chews up a single piece of broccoli and spits it out, then puts it back in his mouth and re-chews it about five times. Then we give in and give him some yogurt puffs instead. At least there’s fruit in there!
