How Much Did Rachel Beebe Spend In a Week? | A Guest Money Diary

Monday
I wake up and feed the dogs breakfast then let them out into the backyard to go potty. It’s got quite chilly in the morning recently (21°F/-6°C) and Nacho, our Boston Terrier, has to be clothed and carried outside because he refuses to go willingly. Most mornings my partner, Johnny, and I start the day on the couch drinking coffee, him catching up on YouTube videos and me scrolling Instagram before I log on to work at around 7:30.
I take Kermit (our other dog, he’s a mix of basically lots of different shepherd and pointer breeds) for a walk at lunch time. He’s acting especially anxious today. I think the lower winter sun causes shadows that seem to really freak him out and he’s exhausted when we get back.
Thanksgiving was last week and while I didn’t cook for the big day, I made the whole spread on Sunday so we could enjoy it over a few days. I make turkey, cranberry sauce, and gravy sandwiches for lunch, which sounds meager but it’s a lovely combination. I should have beefed it up by adding some stuffing too but didn’t feel like heating it up.
Today I’m very distracted from work with all of the Cyber Monday sales going on, so I decided to check a few gifts off my list. We became first time homeowners in September so it will be a lighter haul for everyone this year. As someone who both loves to shop and to give gifts, this is difficult!
I buy a Cuisinart waffle maker for Johnny from Kohl’s. He wanted a Texas-shaped version as a nod to the years we lived there, but that was a little too Amurica for my taste and this one is bound to be higher quality. Normally $79.99, it’s on sale for $39.99, or $42.79 with tax - that’s a pretty good deal!
After Kohl’s, I navigate to the Bombas website where I purchase several pairs of socks for my nearest and dearest. Even with the 25% discount, they’re still pricey as far as socks go, but they really do last forever and are super comfortable and they donate a pair for every pair sold. Shipping is free over $75 so I order enough pairs to meet that threshold (6 total) and my total comes to $78.37.
I feel like I’ve been having far too much screen time lately so after tidying up some around the house I sit down to start a 1,000-piece puzzle my sister got me for my birthday last month - a still life with orange poppies and books on a table - and listen to an audiobook.
As with lunch, we’re also having Thanksgiving leftovers for dinner. It pretty much goes that we will eat them several days in a row and then are so sick of them that we won’t want them until the following year when the holiday rolls around again!
Johnny and I watch The Clovehitch Killer on Netflix which is a disturbing thriller about a young man who discovers his father is not the upstanding citizen he thought he was, but instead he’s a serial killer responsible for the murders of multiple women in their community.
Daily total: $121.16
