I AM COOL ENOUGH FOR DR MARTENS! How Much Did I Spend Last Week? May 8-14, 2023
(Doth the lady protest too much?!)
I’m sorry this is late. I’ve really been trying to get my money diary done by Monday – and uploaded on Tuesday morning – but this weekend really did me in. Atlas had a 39-degree fever for two days, which was honestly enough trauma for one weekend (I stg he spent one entire day crying), and then I developed a stye – Mum, helpfully, “They say they’re from being run down!” – and I sat here, at my desk, on Monday evening, and tried to put my money diary together and the glare of the screen felt honestly like it was doing me some kind of violence and I just… couldn’t.
So: now you know how my weekend went. How was the rest of my week?
Monday
I’ve been waking up, lately, at around 6am, and every day I have the same conversation with myself, wondering if I should just get up and do some work before Atlas wakes up.
And every day, without fail, I decide to stay in bed and fall back to sleep until he wakes up. Today, that’s around 8.15am, when I get him up and changed and downstairs for breakfast of strawberries, toast and some leftover banana bread baked oatmeal that he refuses to let touch his lips.
Then I walk him over to Miss Robin’s in his buggy, and I gather that he realises where we are when he lets out at almighty wail as we reach her driveway and begins to bawl crying before we’re even in the door.
I tell him I love him, I’ll be back soon, he’ll have a great day, and hand him over, swallowing back my own tears, which I know is ridiculous, as I walk back home.
Within an hour, though, I get a text from Robin to let me know he’s having a great time, along with some pics of him appearing, it’s true, to be having a great time. I feel better.
I spend the morning in the office, putting final touches to my money diary and editing the pod, then go to pick him up at 12.30pm.
He goes right down to sleep when we get home, so I make myself a toasted cheese sandwich and some zuppa toscana (really similar to the recipe I use, but I don’t add bacon) for my lunch, then go back upstairs to do some more editing. My main goal is to try not to be doing loads of work on a Monday evening after dinner, as I had got into the habit of doing for the past couple of weeks.
We’re changing our routine very slightly this week, and I’m picking the boys up. Brandin’s going to go to the gym, and then not go on Thursday so that’ll give me a bit more of a break on Thursday afternoons.
The boys are raging when I pick them up instead of their dad, so as a consolation prize I take them to Dairy Queen for blizzards. I make the large mistake of ordering us all mediums ($18.11), before dinner! I’m some kind of amateur!
When we get home we have a half hour or so before Brandin gets back, then we do pasta for dinner and the boys watch Luca before bed.
Daily total: $18.11
