I Don't Like Mondays | How Much Did I Spend Last Week? Mar 6-12, 2023
Allow me to tell you why…
It’s the final countdown – as I write this, my parents are en route to the airport so this is our last week together before their next trip over. My Green Card is still up in the air, so I won’t be able to travel until that’s all sorted, which could be a year or more…
So I’m making the most of it by, er, getting my nails done and eating a lot of takeout food. GO ME!
Monday
Have I mentioned that I now hate Mondays and find them incredibly stressful?! The majority of my deadlines seem to fall on a Monday or Tuesday, so Monday ends up being a frantic day of work which, as you can imagine, is hard to do when you have a toddler running around trying to catch the cat by the tail (his favourite new game).
Luckily, my parents are still here. so they come over today to watch Atlas while I write a feature, finish my money diary and record the voiceover, edit an ad for the podcast, edit an episode of the podcast, schedule said episode to Patreon and our main feed, and follow up on an invoice that is now two months overdue (with zero reply from the company, despite them being active on Instagram… what does one even do in this scenario?!).
In my one bit of “life admin” for the day, I pay our cleaner for the month of March ($500).
I used to pay her weekly (she charges $100 and comes for 2-3 hours, or however long it takes her to clean the house – which she does a great job of, I must say, having a newfound appreciation for her since our few weeks of doing it ourselves) but I was always forgetting payments and it ended up being easier for me to pay her upfront at the start of the month.
As I write this, I’ve just realised that Brandin handles all the other bills, and that I should possibly offer to shoulder some of that responsibility, especially now that he’s also back to work full-time.
Anyway, my parents are dotes and they hang out for the morning while I get all those bits done, then they head back to Bea’s in the afternoon when Atlas goes down for his nap, shortly before Brandin gets home with the boys.
When they get back we have (the inevitable) spaghetti and tomato sauce for dinner as they argue over watching My Hero Academia, a series our eldest loves but our middle child does not – I must confess that I side with him on this one. It’s the dubbed version of a Japanese manga and it’s just very… shouty in the English.
Meanwhile, my Hulu ($14.99) and Bluehost ($14.99) subscriptions come out.
Daily total: $529.98
