In My Most Capable Looking Outfit… | How Much Did I Spend Last Week? March 4-10, 2024
Monday
I know I’m only saying this because I’m an ancient hag, but I genuinely cannot believe that it’s March. I also can’t believe that I’ve been married three years – we tied the knot downtown in the Fort Wayne courthouse three years ago today.
We’d just got engaged that New Year’s Eve; as I laboured over a jigsaw puzzle in the kitchen, Brandin pretended to find a missing piece on the floor and lowered himself on to one knee. You can imagine my chagrin when I realised that he hadn’t, in fact, found my missing piece (and, obviously, my ensuing surprise and delight at his proposal).
I’d originally assumed we’d wait to get married until my family and friends could be there, but within a few weeks of our engagement, I was pregnant, and in a very old-fashioned turn of events, Brandin’s health insurance – which he had through his job – wouldn’t include me unless we were married. And so to the courthouse we went.
Despite the fact that it’s in my calendar and I had reminded Brandin several times over the weekend, now that our wedding anniversary is here, we both completely forget about it until, at around 9pm, over dirty dishes in the kitchen, I remember and say, “oh! Happy anniversary!”
Suffice it to say: no gifts. (In case you were interested, the traditional gift for a third wedding anniversary is leather. I’d gone to the trouble of looking it up and then… done absolutely nothing with the information.)
Atlas is at Robin’s this morning, but we both sleep in until around 8.30am, so by the time I drop him off at 9am it feels as though the day is pretty much over!
Still, I have an appointment this afternoon so I decide to at least try to get some stuff crossed off my to-do list before then, editing a podcast episode and completing a content piece before lunchtime.
I make myself a toasted cheese sandwich, then head downtown to get my hair done at Hair Candy.
I come bearing many photographs of beautiful silver-haired women, but my stylist, Michelle, tells me that, as I’m not that grey yet, this would mean a lot of upkeep, and the kind of silver effect I’m looking for would act like a pastel, and wash out really easily.
Remembering how frustrating I found having pink hair, I decide to defer to her expertise and she puts in a few more very fine highlights, then a very ashy, cool toner. I book to come back in four weeks for another toner, and four weeks after that for my next dye and trim job. ($204 including tip)
Once my hair’s done I head home – Brandin picked the boys up, then got Atlas from Robin’s, so they’re all home when I get there, and we have dinner of tacos and fruit, followed by some bouncing on the trampoline (me and Atlas) and baseball practice (Brandin and the other two) outside.
Old Navy has its quarterly “Super Cash” promo going on, wherein they entice you to spend the vouchers you accrued during the rest of the year (you even earn Super Cash while spending your Super Cash, so they really tie you in to an endless cycle of loyalty), and I have about $150, which would seem shameful to just let go to waste.
So I order myself a workout outfit for the Pilates membership I signed up for, that starts next month (needs a new outfit, obviously), a pair of pink jeans that are desperate on me and must be returned, a pair of plain black leggings that are quite nice, and a lovely midi skirt I’ve been coveting for a while. ($79.65)
Bedtime goes pretty well – it’s so annoying to realise that my mother was right all along, and a bit of fresh air before bed works wonders…
Daily total: $283.65
