In Which I Succumb to the Lure of the Fancy Planner. Again | How much did I spend last week? Dec 27, 2021-Jan 2, 2022
Last year, I bought myself a planner on a Twitter recommendation, the Hobonichi Techo. It ended up costing over $50 including shipping and taxes, but it was described as a “life book”, so it would definitely be worth it – right?!
Wrong.
I used the Hobonichi Techo exactly twice, then placed it on a shelf and entirely ignored it for the remainder of 2021.
If you think this taught me a lesson, you’d be wrong. This week, when Instagram showed me an ad for a sale on Paper Source’s planners and journals, I thought, maybe this is the year this will truly prove useful. You know, the year I have a baby and am working full-time on my writing with a little podcast side hustle. The year with no meetings on the horizon.
Anyway, now that I look at it, I’m not sure I even like the planner I bought myself. I should have gone with my first instinct and ordered one of Papier’s beautiful diaries. At least it would have been something glorious to gaze upon.
(They say you live and learn, but it seems that I consistently learn absolutely nothing.)
Monday
I’d love to say that I’m continuing the festive spirit on this, the 27th of December, but my husband is back to work so it’s just me and the boys – and I do not feel superbly festive when wrangling children, I’m ashamed to admit.
Anyway, things are not all bad; Bea and my Mum come over in the afternoon with her four boys, it’s absolute mayhem but at least I’m not the only adult in the house and we order McDonald’s for lunch! (Mum pays.)
When Brandin gets home the boys are simultaneously hyper and exhausted – the others had just left – so we make them dinner and bedtime goes relatively smoothly due to aforementioned exhaustion (thankfully, the hyperactivity had worn off by then!).
In the meantime, my Book of the Month fee for January comes out. I’ll get to choose my book from their monthly selection at the start of January. Confession: I haven’t read a single one of my BOTM books since I signed up maybe five months ago, but I really love having a selection of matching hardback books on my shelf. I’m ridiculous. ($17.11)
Daily total: $17.11
