It's Harder to be Frugal Than I Would Have Thought | How Much Did I Spend Last Week? March 24-30, 2025
Monday
It’s Atlas’ last week of school before his spring break next week, and honestly I think it couldn’t come soon enough — he’s started to complain, more and more, about going to school, and I think he just needs a break.
I sometimes forget that he’s young to be at school — because of his speech delay, he goes to a developmental preschool in the primary school near us — and of course it must be tiring for him, especially on days he comes home with what looks like pretty hardcore writing practice in his folder.
The poor little sausage! I think it’ll be nice for him to have a week of just hanging out at home, maybe going to the playground, spending some time with Bea and her boys and watching some cartoons on the couch with me.
Anyway, today he freaks out about going to school and has to be carried, crying, to the bus, which is never fun for either one of us.
The one positive about the morning is that Roman has fallen asleep in the swing, so I get to make myself breakfast of bacon, toast and scrambled eggs while he’s asleep.
The morning flies by — the million nappy changes really take up the time — and before long Atlas is home. I make us both lunch of avocado toast with a banana and a pack of fruit snacks for him (he eats the fruit snacks), then he watches some Dino Ranch (which he calls “Dino Yee-Haw”) before it’s time for his nap.
Roman’s awake for most of the afternoon — we’re not in any kind of routine when it comes to daytime naps yet, although thankfully he sleeps pretty well most nights, waking to feed and for a nappy change, but then going right back to sleep — so we kind of potter around the house while I try to make beds and tidy up while also entertaining him and making sure he’s not in any one position long enough to freak out (we’re working up to a 10-minute stint on the bed, let me tell you this child is demanding, right now he’ll tolerate about six minutes until he simply must be picked up).
When the boys get home, they wake Atlas up, and we have spaghetti and tomato sauce for dinner. Brandin makes chocolate chip cookies for dessert, which they’re all thrilled with.
We’ve totally forgotten the older boys are off this week, which means we can’t ferry them off to bed at 8pm to watch our shows. Instead, Atlas goes to bed at 8pm and the rest of us are all up watching The Walking Dead together until we all go to bed at 10pm or so.
