A note: I’ve decided not to include “household” expenses in the money diaries any more – I’ve never included the mortgage, as it comes from our shared account, so it doesn’t make sense to include some bills and not all. From now on it will be a discretionary spending diary, basically, just the fun stuff!
Monday
I am determined that this week will be an incredibly productive one, so I’m up at 7.30am and have Atlas at Robin’s by 8am, even though it kills me to do it because (a) I hate waking him almost as much as (b) I hate waking myself.
This morning Beatrice, Mum and Dad come over so that we (Beatrice and I) can record the podcast. We manage to get three episodes recorded, although I almost die in the process – I seem to be running very hot lately and the three of them insist on cranking the heat right up, so much so that I end up in only a string vest and a pair of leggings, sweating profusely.
I do need to edit at least one of those episodes today, but we decide we’ll go for lunch to Three Fires, the good pizza place over our side of town. But before that, I’m bullied into looking for an appointment with my doctor to discuss my persistent headaches.
In a welcome twist of fate, my doctor must have had a cancellation because there is an appointment available this afternoon at 3pm. The next one after that isn’t til mid-April, so this is very lucky.
What isn’t lucky is that Three Fires doesn’t open until 4pm on Tuesdays – it is, of course, open at 11am every other day of the week – so we decide to go to Shigs in Pit for barbecue. Dad and I each get a two-meat plate – two meats (obviously), with two sides and a piece of garlic bread. Bea and Mum share a chicken tenders dinner and we each get a soft drink (“pop”, as they say in the Midwest).
Mum tries to pay, but I tell her I’ll pay, then Bea tries to pay and I say, “no, I already told Mum I’d pay”), and to my abject horror, she says “okay” and puts her credit card back in her bag. Big mistake. Huge. ($82.54)
After lunch, I have about an hour before my appointment but I decide I may as well go and wait on their comfy couches – driving 10 minutes home to sit on the couch for 30 seems stupid – and read my book, and am delighted when I’m taken in early because the person before me never showed up.
My doctor seems to think what I’m having are atypical migraines, so she prescribes a medication for me that she says should help – she’s to do a bit of work to find one that’s safe to take while breastfeeding – but that I should take at night time, as it can make you drowsy.
When I’m done, I head home – Brandin got Atlas from his babysitter as I wasn’t sure I’d be done on time – and we have pasta for dinner (for a change! We need to start branching out when it comes to the meals we make when the boys are with us, because we are very boring, but also, there are few things as irritating as slaving over a new recipe only for no one to eat it. So.).
Once bath and bedtime are done, I sit and watch Real Housewives of Salt Lake City (yes, still) while Brandin builds Legos. He’s sensible and goes to bed around 10.30pm, while I stay up watching rich women fight in Utah until after midnight. WHY?!?
