Seeds 'n' Shots | How Much Did I Spend Last Week? Jul 24-30, 2023
And some ill-thought-out knitwear
What kind of procrastinator are you? Because I have just realised that I am the kind of procrastinator who will put off filing her nails for far too long, then sit down to write her money diary and put that off because her nails are too long to type, and instead of writing will carefully clip said nails at her desk before commencing the actual work.
That is to say: I sat down to write this money diary and realised that my nails, which are very soft and bend when they’re too long (which is a gross feeling), were hindering my progress. My nails, of all things!
I’ve concluded that long, soft, bendy natural nails are actually harder to type with than rock-hard acrylic (or gel) nail extensions; having had both, while the latter necessitate you typing with your fingers kind of over-extended, the former is honestly quite vomit-inducing. Cramped fingers > nausea, I think you’ll agree.
Monday
Babysitter Robin is away this week, which means that my work time is cut drastically short – it can basically only be done while Atlas is asleep, for an hour and a half at 12.30pm or so – and I must focus on other things to do while we’re home alone together.
Today I’m kind of taking it easy because I’m just feeling wrecked – three wakings last night from my little angel! – so we just potter around for the morning playing with the Bluey playset we commandeered from his brothers’ collection upstairs (having not seen the light of day in over a year as they’ve pretty much outgrown it) and making umpteen meals and snacks.
When he goes down to sleep, I toy with the idea of spending the 90 minutes at my desk, but decide that, instead, I’ll order Taj Mahal ($1.94 as I have DoorDash credits from a wrong order last week) and watching Vanderpump Rules, and do my work after dinner. (This is always a bit of a gamble, because there’s a 50/50 chance that I’ll be absolutely wrecked after dinner, and not want to do anything.)
I’ve enjoyed my garden so much this summer – so far! and there’s still more to come! – that I decide to order some bulbs for autumn planting, for an abundance of colourful blooms in the spring. I order a load of tulip bulbs, a variety of daffodils and three peony bulbs from Eden Brothers ($213.92), as well as a pack of zinnia seeds that I’m going to take a chance on planting in the next week or so, in the hopes that they’ll bloom before the first frost in (probably) October.
As predicted, after dinner – we make pasta – I do not want to work at all but I have a piece due tomorrow, so I’ve no choice. This is when something that should take an hour ends up taking four hours and I am MOST displeased (with myself).
Daily total: $215.86
