Monday

It’s the first week of Atlas’ summer holidays, so we’re still working out the babysitting schedule; this week, I decide to send both boys on Tuesday and Wednesday, just a half day for Roman and a full day for Atlas, so they’re both home with me today.

I make breakfast of Eggo chocolate chip waffles for Atlas, and have Frosted Mini Wheats myself (Atlas used to like these, which is true for a lot of foods, but now won’t even try them), then Roman goes down for a nap at around 9.30am and I decide to try doing a workout with Atlas in tow.

I’m doing the Empowered Movement coaching programme, and have thus far managed only to do a single workout (I started at the beginning of May), so I get a bit confused today wondering if I should do the second workout of week one, or act like I’m on week one of month two (even though I only did one of 12 in month one…) and I’m very close to throwing in the towel on the whole workout idea when I decide to do a yoga class instead.

Atlas delightedly joins in for about the first 30 seconds before announcing, “me hate yoga!”, but watching me try to balance seems to keep him semi occupied for the session, which is good enough for me. The class is really nice – relaxing but also challenging in parts, and the instructor, Lia, is lovely and encouraging.

Once we’re done, I get changed and we get ready to go out to speech therapy.

We head a little bit early so we can go and get coffee and a croissant, and while I’m ordering I have a bit of a sobering moment as I glance over to see my baby… looking very much not like a baby. It’s okay though, he’s back to being very babyish when he decides he hates his cake pop and demands to eat my croissant instead of his own. ($23.87)

Speech therapy goes well – he insists I go in with him this week, which is fine, and even stops halfway through to tell me he needs to go to the bathroom, despite him being in a pull-up. Until now, he’s basically just gone in his pull-up / undies, so has had to have nothing on his lower half in order to use the toilet, so it feels like we’re turning a massive corner!

Once we get home, I put Atlas down for a nap – Roman fell asleep in the car again and is now wide awake, so he gets to stay up a little bit longer – then make myself a chick patty burger for lunch before feeding Roman and putting him down in his crib.

I contemplate doing some work but honestly find my Chromebook so annoying (it’s just not possible to go back from the Macbook life, please, don’t ever buy yourself an Apple anything if you haven’t already, it’s like being in the mafia but way more expensive) that it’s not even worth trying. Instead, I read my book – I’m close to finishing Onyx Storm, which has been a bit of a slog as I spent the whole first half trying to remember what was going on – and drink some coffee (made at 5am and warmed up, not the most delicious thing in the world but I’m too lazy to make more) until Brandin gets home with the boys.

It’s a short little sojourn at home for them – we have pasta with tomato sauce as it’s quick, easy and everyone (except me) likes it – because Brandin and our 10-year-old are headed back out to a baseball game. (Our 12-year-old has band.)

It’s just me, Atlas and Roman for the evening – luckily, tonight Roman goes down right as Atlas gets into the bath, and I then get Atlas tucked up in bed by 8.30pm, and read some more of my book before Brandin and the boys get home at around 9.30pm.

I remember to pay our cleaner for May ($500), and my subscription to
