Some Light Reading! | How Much Did I Spend Last Week? Oct 14-20, 2024
The answer, as always, is too much
Monday
This week is midterm, so Atlas is not at preschool. I did contemplate starting him next week, instead of last, but I figured having a little taster, followed by a week off, might be a gentle introduction?!
Honestly, there is no way to ever know if you’re making the right choice when it comes to these stupid little decisions so we just do our best.
We have our final appointment with his OT at Sensory Connections this morning, so we’re up and out the door by 8.15am so that we can stop for coffee (for me) and croissants (yes, plural) for his breakfast en route. One croissant is never enough. ($20 including tip)
I drop him to his babysitter’s afterwards, which he’s most displeased about, but once we walk in the door he runs off to see what’s for (second) breakfast, so I figure he’ll be fine.
I head home to spend the day recording an episode of the pod with Bea before she and the boys head to Chicago for the week, edit said podcast episode so that I can get it uploaded immediately, write a piece for Substack and respond to some emails I’ve been putting on the long finger.
I also order some bits from Target – a mortar and pestle, which Brandin randomly needed yesterday for some recipe or other, and a little pot for teabags. I don’t look at the measurements though and it holds approximately 10 teabags, which is borderline useless. ($33.52)
I also order three beautiful serving plates from John Derian’s Thanksgiving range, but decide, last minute, to strike those from the order as I really can’t afford them. They are beautiful and, as an Irish person, will do for Christmas as well as Thanksgiving (so weird to me that Americans don’t do turkey for Christmas), but we really have so many bills and, honestly, maxed-out credit cards at the moment… I really shouldn’t do it. (I shouldn’t have done the other two things either, obviously.)
When Brandin and the boys get home we have chicken nuggets, mashed potatoes and peas for dinner, all of which they say they hate (chicken nuggets?! YOU LOVED THESE SAME NUGGETS LAST WEEK). I try to smile calmly and tell them, as I tell them at least three times a week, “not every meal will be your favourite – just eat what you can”.
After bath and bedtime, I sit down to attempt to finish the terrible book I’m reading, but end up listening to podcasts and playing Royal Match until bedtime instead.
Our composting payment to Dirt Wain comes out. ($17)
Daily total: $70.52
