Monday

Atlas is at Robin’s today so I drop him off nice and early and head over to Bea’s to pick up her two middle boys, Beau and Chance, who are headed to drama camp. As Atlas is at his babysitter’s today I offered to drive them, and thought Mum and Dad and I could grab breakfast downtown afterwards.

I walk the boys in to the venue and sign them in only to see Beau recognise someone he knows – he is absolutely the child who will always have a best friend show up everywhere he goes – and then we head to Fortezza for breakfast.

I chose Fortezza because I’ve seen them share some truly delicious-looking pastries on their Instagram, but when we get there I conclude that the pastries must be weekend-only, and during the week they just have their “regular” menu, which has a pretty limited selection of porridge, muffins and their creme brulee French toast.

Of course I have the French toast, as does Dad, and Mum has a blueberry muffin. Dad and I each have a coffee and she has a breakfast tea. ($42.77 including tip)

Monday, in general, is not a great day to hang out downtown because a lot of the shops aren’t open or, if they are, like Fortezza and now GK, they don’t do baked goods on a Monday. Even The Find, a cute little downtown boutique that’s slightly overpriced and has only things you don’t need (but I always buy something) doesn’t open on Mondays.

Anyway, once we’re finished, I drop Mum and Dad back to Bea’s and then head back to my house to do some work. I always find it hard to work in these last few weeks with them – they head back on Saturday week – because I feel like I should be maximising the time we spend together, but because I haven’t been well, I’ve been really struggling to get much done as it is, and I’m really trying to push past it to at least publish something.

I get a medium amount of work done (nothing award-winning, but I clear a few things off my to-do list, which is better than nothing), and I get the bones of last week’s money diary written (all of my spending inserted, along with a rough outline of what each day looked like), so that I’ll hopefully be able to finish that up tomorrow during Atlas’ nap.

I order some more Nespresso capsules – we got a “starter” set of capsules with our machine, and bought a few more sleeves, but we’re almost out and I want to try to figure out what flavours we like before we set up a recurring order. (If you have a Nespresso machine and have figured out the most cost-efficient way to buy capsules, please do share!)

I also get a special selection of disgusting chocolate, vanilla and hazelnut flavoured capsules for Brandin, which come with two cute cappuccino cups. ($202.02)

When Brandin gets home with the boys we have a kind of sweet and sour chicken dish with rice and broccoli (Atlas doesn’t touch a single part of this meal, instead eating cottage cheese, some avocado and a burger bun – we still offer him what we’re having at each mealtime, and hope that some day he’ll try it… but also try to give him some stuff we know he’ll eat because otherwise he freaks out, eats nothing, and then only wants to eat crisps or cereal bars for the rest of the day).

It’s a very uneventful evening and we’re all in bed by 10pm.

Daily total: $244.79
