It’s fair to say there’s been a decent amount of buzz around Yomi Adegoke’s The List, the first solo book by the journalist and writer whose writing has appeared in British Vogue and who co-authored Slay in Your Lane: The Black Girl Bible.
The List was the subject of, rumour has it, an intense bidding war between publishing houses, a battle that is now playing out for the TV rights – and it’s even the Good Morning America book club pick for October. When this kind of explosion happens after the publication of a new work, you can safely assume that there’s either a massive publicity campaign behind it, that it’s a truly astounding work of genius, or both; in Adegoke’s case, I think it really is a bit of both, although, honestly, more the former than the latter.
