Yet Another $1,000+ Bonanza | How Much Did I Spend Last Week? Jan 30-Feb 5, 2023
Am I the worst money-saver in the world?! (The Ayes Have it)
Monday
At the start of January, I signed up for a subscription to Stronger by the Day, a workout app developed by @megsquats, an Instagrammer I’ve followed for a few years and really like.
A little warning that her account is quite body composition / aesthetic-focused so for any of you struggling with body image or disordered eating, it might not be for you!
The app has both at-home and gym workouts and structures everything in cycles, which I really like as I’d like to get back to building my strength – but of course I didn’t open it once in January and entirely forgot to cancel it when I wasn’t using it. ($10.69)
I don’t love at-home workouts, so I have been contemplating joining a cheap, big-box gym to go and work out at… but the idea of starting from scratch feels so overwhelming to me right now. So, here I am. I might try to use it in the next week or two and, if not, unsubscribe before March’s payment.
The other major cost today – and it does feel like a major cost – is our annual HOA dues, which we had to pay by the end of January (just getting in under the wire!). Brandin pays this online. ($360.76)
There’s currently a heated discussion going on in our housing estate’s Facebook page about the cost of the HOA, what exactly it does – mows the grass, mostly – and how we can wrest control of it back from the developers.
Apparently that’s due to happen in the summer, so I’m slightly toying with the idea of volunteering to sit on the board, or whatever… but also not sure I want to dedicate any of my life to debating the merits of limiting what colours people can paint their houses. (I am clearly in a very decisive mood.)
Those are the only expenditures today – as it’s a Monday I’m mostly at my desk, trying to edit my monster of a book so that no one will sue me, as well as writing a content piece that’s due tomorrow and getting the week’s money diary done.
I keep thinking I’d like to go for a walk, then I remember that it’s still below zero and the snow hasn’t even remotely melted and – possibly most importantly – our 10-year-old “borrowed” my gloves and has yet to return them (and, I suspect, doesn’t know where they are).
Brandin goes to pick the boys up at 3.30pm, they get back right after Atlas has woken up from his nap and we have pasta (so original!) for dinner.
Daily total: $371.45
