It seems ridiculous to be writing a money diary on a Saturday, for the previous week – but the baby has been fractious, to put it mildly, this week, and is currently not interested in being in any position that does not involve his being in direct contact with someone else.
Ergo I, being his nine-to-five caregiver, have been spending the majority of my time under the baby, as they say.
With all of that in mind, it’s a wonder I can remember anything about last week – this money diary will be a bit “bare bones”, for which I can only apologise and say that I will try to get this week’s diary done tomorrow, so that I can publish it in a timely manner, early in the week.
Monday
Today’s main task is to take Bea’s boys – the three oldest, Nash, Beau and Chance – for their second Covid shot, at a CVS all the way across town. When their vaccinations were originally booked, it was right after things had opened up for kids, so appointments were few and far between and I think this CVS was the only one with any openings. Anyway, here we are.
It’s all relatively uneventful. Dad comes with me and I drive; Chance (5) cries hysterically right before, during and immediately after his injection, but cheers up when she produces the post-vaccination sweets stash.
I buy them all a single item of candy afterwards – they all choose gum, which, worryingly, they’ve all entirely eaten (as in, swallowed) by the time we get back. I buy Chance a Halloween colouring book and also get some nappies.
We’ve been using cloth/reusable nappies for Atlas, but at night-time we use regular disposables because the reusables are slightly less absorbent and we’re hoping that, one of these days, he’ll sleep for more than two hours at a time. ($41.10)
We go through the Dairy Queen drive-thru on the way home to complete the fun of the trip. I get a Blizzard (kind of like a McFlurry I think? Some variety of whipped ice-cream that they present to you upside-down to prove how gravity-defying it is), and the boys each get an ice-cream. Dad gets pretzel bites. ($26.28)
Daily total: $67.38
Tuesday
Today is one of the many days this week I’ll spend in the house, with the baby, willing him to go to sleep for more than 40 minutes and, preferably, in his bassinet / swing. He’s not having it.
My Google Storage payment comes out. ($3.39)
Daily total: $3.39
Wednesday
I order myself Starbucks for breakfast. I feel very sorry for myself being stuck in with the baby this week – everyone talks about how intense this shit is, but it’s like… I maybe didn’t believe them? Did I think they were exaggerating? Either way, they were correct and it is very, very intense.
As compensation I get myself a latte, two croissants and some bottled water (our water suddenly and inexplicably tastes like pure chlorine). ($21.27)
