Thank you for doing this. I started Ozempic last Wednesday, after a lot of thought & consideration. Trying to find information on Ozempic online wasn’t great. So I chatted to my GP. He did my bloods thankfully not diabetic as both parents are. I’ve high blood pressure and BMI is in the obese category. I’ve had no ill effects to the injection so far. Appetite is definitely decreased and cravings for chocolate and sweets are gone.
Thank you for your refreshing honesty. Zero part of me judges you, I actually admire you and wish you the very best. After developing a thyroid condition and needing two weight gaining medications which increased my appetite and slowed my metabolism, then developing chronic fatigue as well (having been “the tiny one” before all this), I feel utter despair about the weight bias and fat shaming that is endemic in the medical profession and society. Like you, I went down the route of body neutrality books, Instagram pages etc. determined to be wise and psychologically healthy about it, but after introducing an anti diet book to my all woman book club and watching it get torn to shreds by women who needed to cling to their worldview that thin=good and happy, I felt tempted to give up and give in. I will never ever betray myself or deprive myself to fit an ideal, but I have sadly also let go of the idea that swimming against the tide is remotely possible. It’s a fantasy we’re doomed to drown in, so if you can’t beat em you might as well join em for your own sanity. I have now realised that most women I know have a disordered relationship with food, and that the situation is getting worse not better. You only live once and you have to do what you need to do to emotionally survive in a world in which being fat is constructed as an unbearable and intolerable state of being and which automatically lowers your worth in the eyes of others and ourselves. Good for you with trying this out, and I don’t believe your reasons are excuses, they are valid reasons. I am sure if those alpha male thinfluencers spent a decade living in your body their smug world view would crumble very quickly. I look forward to your updates. X
I have to admit I judged you harshly when you first mentioned you were going on it, but that was because of the shortages which I’d heard about. I had no idea about the other option. So this piece was really informative. Thanks for that!
Keeping fingers crossed that it works for you and you don’t have any side effects.
Loves this peice and I'm glad I found it today. I just picked up my first months worth of saxenda and intend to take my first dose tomorrow. We still can't get ozempic in NZ so Saxenda is my only option, after trying everything apart from surgery, which they won't give me because I've already had a heart attack.
My biggest fear is it won't work for me. Or that it will work for me and I won't have the money to keep buying it (My aunt has paid for my first months worth). Side effects be damned!
This is interesting and well researched - thank you.

Looking forward to the updates on the cheaper, more sustainable option.
